Chicago Brewseum - Brewing Up Chicago

Developed by the Chicago Brewseum, Brewing Up Chicago: How Beer Transformed a City revealed how a blend of raw ingredients came together to create a city like no other.

The exhibition presented 19th century urban development through the lens of Chicago’s brewing industry, and by extension, the immigrant community who built it. For a small exhibit, Angle Park packed in a lot of media.

  • A tightly edited short film about the events of the “1855 Lager Beer Riot” was narrated by noted actor Michael Shannon.

  • A projection mapped atmospheric element married the exhibit’s main themes with the raw ingredients used in brewing as if was projected onto scenic, fabricated brewing vessels.

  • A “Design Your Own Beer Label” interactive kiosk allowed guests to create their own custom brew and text or email their creation to themselves or a friend.

  • A period soundscape wrapped the whole gallery in music and sound effects.
