Adler Planetarium - Chicago Night Sky

For this Adler Planetarium permanent exhibition, Angle Park developed two interactives that allow visitors to make something and send themselves a copy.

“Create Your Own Constellation” allows guests to draw and name their own constellation based on actual star fields. When complete, each new constellation gets a moment of glory as it is projected up onto a large curved projection screen that can be seen throughout the gallery.

Visitors also may take a “selfie from space” while standing on a backlit Chicago street grid, simulating a weather balloon survey of the night sky done by planetarium scientists.

Both interactives allow visitors to send themselves their creation via SMS text message or email, offering a connection to their experience after their visit. These high-volume installations sometimes see more than 1000 messages sent per week.
